Please Hold
This track was mostly put together while waiting on hold with a government service during the COVID-19 pandemic. With reduced staff, call centre wait times often exceeded several hours. Listening to the same 10-second loop of music being interrupted with an empty promise that my call was important and pleading with me to wait just a few minutes longer was taking a toll, so I grabbed my laptop and this melody fell out.
When I was much younger, I had the misfortune of working at a call centre out of desperation, and it was one of the most horrible, soul-crushing jobs short of being an actual battery hen. Fortunately I was only cold-calling out to business customers, but the act of calling people and pestering them to buy software they didn’t want went against everything I felt was right.
It took me a while to polish this track and release it because it’s nothing special. 🐝
